유전자 개요
이 유전자는 작고 분비되는 단백질 계열인 칼리포린(lipocalin) 패밀리의 구성원을 암호화한다. 칼리포린은 다양한 소수성 리간드에 결합하는 세포외 수송 단백질이다. 이 유전자는 눈물 내 주요 지질 결합 단백질을 지정하며, 감염 및 스트레스를 포함한 여러 자극에 반응하여 과다 생성된다. 이 단백질은 염색체 이수성(aneuploidy)의 표지자일 뿐만 아니라 쇼그렌 증후군(Sjogren’s syndrome)의 자가 항원으로 작용할 수 있다. 이 유전자에는 여러 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 전사체 변이체(transcript variant)가 관찰되었으며, 두 개의 위유전자(pseudogene) 또한 9번 염색체 긴 팔에 위치한다.
