이 유전자는 T세포 항원 수용체(TCR) 신호 전달 경로 활성화 이후 ZAP-70/Syk 단백질 티로신 키나아제(protein tyrosine kinases)에 의해 인산화되는 단백질을 암호화한다. 이 막단백질은 지질 뗏목(lipid rafts)에 위치하며 SH2 도메인 함유 단백질의 도킹 부위로 작용한다. 인산화되면, 이 단백질은 TCR 결합 부위 근처에 위치한 다중분자 신호 복합체로 여러 조절 단백질과 하위 신호 분자를 모집한다. 대안적 스플라이싱(alternative splicing)은 다양한 아이소폼(isoforms)을 암호화하는 여러 전사 변이체(transcript variants)를 생성한다.
