LAMA1 유전자는 라미닌 알파 1 소단위를 지정합니다. 라미닌은 알파, 베타, 감마 사슬로 구성된 이형 삼량체 구조를 갖는 세포외 기질 당단백질(extracellular matrix glycoproteins) 패밀리입니다. 이 단백질들은 기저 막(basement membrane)의 주요 구성 요소이며 세포 부착, 분화, 이동, 신호 전달, 신경돌기 성장 및 전이(metastasis)를 포함한 광범위한 생물학적 과정에 관여하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 Poretti-Boltshauser 증후군(syndrome)과 관련될 수 있습니다.
