유전자 개요
KRT5는 케라틴 유전자군(keratin gene family)에 속하는 단백질을 암호화하며, 그 산물인 II형 사이토케라틴(type II cytokeratin)은 단순 및 중층 상피 조직의 분화 과정에서 함께 발현되는 이형 케라틴 사슬과 쌍을 이루는 염기성 또는 중성 단백질이다. 이 II형 사이토케라틴은 KRT14와 함께 표피 기저층에서 특이적으로 발현되며, 해당 유전자의 돌연변이는 단순 표피박리수포증(epidermolysis bullosa simplex)이라 불리는 질환군과 연관되어 있다. II형 사이토케라틴은 염색체 12q12-q13 영역에 군집해 있다.
