유전자 개요
KRT18은 I형 중간섬유(intermediate filament) 사슬인 케라틴 18(keratin 18)을 암호화한다. 케라틴 18은 섬유 파트너인 케라틴 8과 더불어 중간섬유 유전자군에서 가장 흔하게 발견되는 구성원으로 꼽히며, 체내 단층 상피조직에서 발현된다. 이 유전자의 변이는 원인불명 간경변(cryptogenic cirrhosis)과 연관되어 있으며, 동일한 단백질을 암호화하는 두 가지 전사체 변이가 보고되었다.
