유전자 개요
칼리크레인(Kallikreins)은 다양한 생리적 기능을 가진 세린 단백질분해효소(serine protease)의 하위 그룹입니다. 많은 칼리크레인이 암(cancer) 발생과 관련 있으며 일부는 새로운 암 및 기타 질병 바이오마커(biomarker)로서의 잠재력을 가진다는 증거가 늘고 있습니다. 이 유전자는 염색체 19번의 클러스터에 위치한 15개의 칼리크레인 서브패밀리(subfamily) 구성원 중 하나입니다. 특정 조직에서는 호르몬에 의해 발현이 조절됩니다. 마우스에서 유사한 단백질의 발현 패턴은 에나멜 단백질(enamel protein) 분해에서 해당 단백질의 역할을 지지합니다. 이 유전자에 대해 서로 다른 단백질을 암호화하는 여러 전사체 변이체(transcript variant)가 발견되었습니다.
