칼리크레인(Kallikreins)은 다양한 생리적 기능을 가진 세린 단백질분해효소(serine proteases)의 하위 그룹입니다. 많은 칼리크레인들이 암(cancer) 발생과 관련 있으며, 일부는 새로운 암 및 기타 질병 바이오마커(biomarker)로서의 잠재력을 가지고 있다는 증거가 늘어나고 있습니다. 이 유전자는 염색체 19번의 클러스터에 위치한 15개의 칼리크레인 서브패밀리(subfamily) 구성원 중 하나입니다. 해당 유전자가 지정하는 단백질은 분비되며, 유방암 및 전립선암에서 종양 발생 억제 역할을 할 수 있습니다. 이 유전자의 대체 스플라이싱(alternate splicing)은 동일한 단백질을 암호화하는 여러 전사체 변이체(transcript variants)를 생성합니다.
