유전자 개요

이 유전자는 KIT 유전자 좌위에 의해 암호화되는 타이로신 키나아제 수용체(tyrosine-kinase receptor)의 리간드(ligand)를 암호화한다. 이 리간드는 생식세포 및 신경세포 발달과 조혈 작용에서 자궁 내에서 작용하는 다면적 인자이며, 이 모든 것은 세포 이동에서의 역할을 반영하는 것으로 여겨진다. 성체에서는 다면적으로 기능하지만, 주로 조혈 작용에서의 지속적인 필요성이 주목된다. 이 유전자에는 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 두 개의 전사체 변이체(transcript variant)가 발견되었다.
