유전자 개요

ITGA5 유전자는 인테그린 알파 사슬 계열에 속하는 단백질을 암호화한다. 인테그린은 세포 표면 부착 및 신호 전달에 관여하는 알파 소단위체와 베타 소단위체로 구성된 이합체 막 단백질이다. 암호화된 전구단백질은 단백질 분해 과정을 거쳐 알파 5 소단위체를 구성하는 경쇄와 중쇄를 생성한다. 이 소단위체는 베타 1 소단위체와 결합하여 피브로넥틴 수용체(fibronectin receptor)를 형성한다. 이 인테그린은 종양 침윤을 촉진할 수 있으며, 이 유전자의 높은 발현은 폐암 환자의 짧은 생존 시간과 관련될 수 있다. 인테그린 알파 5(integrin alpha 5)와 인테그린 알파 V(integrin alpha V) 소단위체는 서로 다른 유전자에 의해 암호화된다.
