유전자 개요
이 유전자는 인테그린 알파 사슬(integrin alpha chain) 단백질 계열의 구성원을 암호화한다. 인테그린은 알파 사슬과 베타 사슬로 구성된 이합체(heterodimeric)의 막 단백질로, 세포 표면 접착 분자(cell surface adhesion molecules)로 기능한다. 암호화된 전구체 단백질(preproprotein)은 단백질 분해를 통해 알파 3 소단위(alpha 3 subunit)를 이루는 경쇄(light chain)와 중쇄(heavy chain)를 생성한다. 이 소단위는 베타 1 소단위(beta 1 subunit)와 결합하여 라미닌(laminin) 계열을 포함한 세포외 기질 단백질(extracellular matrix proteins)과 상호작용하는 인테그린을 형성한다. 이 유전자의 발현은 유방암 전이와 연관될 수 있다.
