유전자 개요
IRF8은 인터페론 공통 서열 결합 단백질(interferon consensus sequence-binding protein, ICSBP)로도 불리며, 인터페론 조절 인자(interferon regulatory factor, IRF) 계열에 속하는 전사인자(transcription factor)이다. 이 계열 단백질은 N-말단의 보존된 DNA 결합 도메인과 조절 도메인으로 기능하는 가변적 C-말단 영역으로 구성된다. IRF 계열 단백질은 인터페론 자극 반응 요소(IFN-stimulated response element, ISRE)에 결합하여 제1형 인터페론인 IFN-alpha와 IFN-beta에 의해 자극되는 유전자의 발현을 조절하며, 바이러스 감염으로 유도되는 IFN-alpha 및 IFN-beta 조절 유전자의 발현도 제어한다.
