유전자 개요
IL24는 IL10 사이토카인(cytokine) 계열에 속하며, 흑색종(melanoma) 세포의 말기 분화 과정에서 유도되는 유전자로 확인되었다. 이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 다양한 암세포에서 선택적으로 세포자멸사(apoptosis)를 유도하며, 과발현 시 세포자멸사 유도와 상관관계를 보이는 여러 GADD 계열 유전자의 발현이 증가한다. 흑색종 세포에서는 미토겐 활성화 단백질 키나아제 14(MAPK7/P38)와 열충격 27 kDa 단백질 1(HSPB2/HSP27)의 인산화(phosphorylation)가 유도되지만 정상 불멸화 멜라닌세포에서는 그렇지 않으며, 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)를 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 전사 변이체가 보고되었다.
