IL1RAP는 인터루킨 1 수용체 복합체(interleukin 1 receptor complex)의 한 구성 요소를 암호화하며, 이 복합체는 인터루킨 1 반응성 유전자의 활성화로 이어지는 신호 전달을 개시한다. 대체 스플라이싱(alternative splicing)을 통해 C-말단이 서로 다른 막 결합형(membrane-bound)과 가용성(soluble) 동형단백질이 만들어진다. 급성기 유도나 스트레스 상황에서는 막 결합형 대비 가용성 형태의 비율이 증가한다.
