이 유전자는 T 세포에서 유래한 사이토카인(cytokine)으로, IL17과 서열 유사성을 공유한다. 이 사이토카인은 단핵구 세포주에서 종양 괴사 인자 알파(tumor necrosis factor alpha)와 인터루킨 1 베타(interleukin 1 beta)의 방출을 촉진하는 것으로 보고되었다. 이 사이토카인의 발현은 활성화된 T 세포에 국한되는 것으로 밝혀졌다.
