IL15와 IL2 수용체는 두 개의 소단위인 IL2R 베타와 IL2R 감마를 공유하며, 이는 IL15와 IL2의 여러 생물학적 활성에서 나타나는 중첩의 기초가 된다. 이 유전자에 의해 암호화된 단백질은 높은 친화력의 IL2 결합에 필요한 추가적인 IL2 특이적 알파 소단위인 IL2R 알파와 구조적으로 관련이 있다.
