이 유전자는 인터루킨 12 수용체(interleukin 12 receptor) 복합체의 소단위체로 확인된 제1형 막 단백질을 암호화합니다. 이 단백질과 IL12RB1 단백질의 공동 발현은 고친화성 IL12 결합 부위 형성 및 IL12 의존 신호 전달 재구성으로 이어지는 것으로 나타났습니다. 인터페론 감마(interferon gamma)는 Th1 세포에서 이 유전자의 발현을 상향 조절하며, Th1 세포 분화에 관여합니다. 이 유전자의 상향 조절은 크론병 및 나병과 같은 여러 감염 질환과 관련이 있으며, 이는 염증 반응 및 숙주 방어에 기여하는 것으로 생각됩니다. 이 유전자에 대해 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 여러 전사체 변이체와 단백질을 암호화하지 않는 전사체가 발견되었습니다.
