유전자 개요

IGFBP3는 인슐린 유사 성장 인자 결합 단백질(insulin-like growth factor binding protein, IGFBP) 계열에 속하며, IGFBP 도메인과 티로글로불린 I형 도메인(thyroglobulin type-I domain)을 갖춘 단백질을 암호화한다. 이 단백질은 인슐린 유사 성장 인자 산-불안정성 소단위체(insulin-like growth factor acid-labile subunit, IGFALS) 및 인슐린 유사 성장 인자(insulin-like growth factor, IGF) I 또는 II와 삼원 복합체(ternary complex)를 이루어 혈장 내를 순환하며, 이 형태로 IGF의 반감기(half-life)를 연장하고 세포 표면 수용체와의 상호작용을 변화시킨다. 서로 다른 동형 단백질(isoform)을 암호화하는 대체 전사 스플라이스 변이체들이 규명되어 있다.
