유전자 개요
이 유전자에서 암호화되는 단백질은 세포 간 부착 분자(ICAM) 계열의 구성원이다. 모든 ICAM 단백질은 제1형 막관통 당단백질(glycoprotein)으로, 2~9개의 면역글로불린 유사 C2형 도메인을 포함하며, 백혈구 부착 LFA-1 단백질에 결합한다. 이 단백질은 LFA-1 의존성 세포 부착을 차단함으로써 림프구 재순환에 관여할 수 있다. 또한 항원 특이적 면역 반응, NK세포 매개 제거, 림프구 재순환 및 면역 반응과 감시에 중요한 기타 세포 상호작용에 필수적인 부착 상호작용을 매개한다. 이 유전자에 대해 동일한 단백질을 암호화하는 여러 전사 변이체가 발견되었다.
