유전자 개요

이 유전자는 BCL-2 단백질 계열 구성원을 암호화한다. 이 계열 구성원들은 세포자멸사(apoptosis)를 활성화하거나 억제하는 데 관여한다. 암호화된 단백질은 세포 내 막에 위치하며, BH3 도메인을 통해 세포자멸사 억제제인 BCL-2 및 BCL-X(L)와 상호작용하여 세포자멸사를 촉진한다. 대립 유전자 스플라이싱(alternate splicing)을 통해 여러 전사 변이체가 생성된다.
