유전자 개요
헤파란 황산 프로테오글리칸(heparan sulfate proteoglycans)은 기저막(basement membrane)과 세포외 기질(extracellular matrix)의 주요 구성 성분이다. 이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 헤파란 황산 프로테오글리칸을 절단(cleavage)하는 효소로, 이 절단을 통해 세포외 기질을 재구성(remodeling)함으로써 세포 이동을 가능하게 한다. 또한 이 절단은 세포외 기질에 결합되어 있던 생리활성 분자(bioactive molecules)를 유리시킬 수 있으며, 이 유전자에서는 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 여러 전사체 변이체(transcript variants)가 확인되었다.
