유전자 개요
HOXC13 유전자는 호메오박스(homeobox) 유전자 계열에 속한다. 호메오박스 유전자들은 모든 다세포 생물에서 형태형성(morphogenesis)에 중요한 역할을 하는 고도로 보존된 전사 인자(transcription factor) 계열을 암호화한다. 포유류는 서로 다른 염색체에 위치하며 9개에서 11개의 유전자로 구성된 4개의 유사한 호메오박스 유전자 군집(HOXA, HOXB, HOXC, HOXD)을 가지고 있다. 본 유전자는 염색체 12번 상의 군집에 위치한 여러 호메오박스 HOXC 유전자 중 하나이다. 이 유전자는 머리카락, 손톱, 그리고 필리미폼 유두(filiform papilla)의 발달에 관여할 수 있다.
