유전자 개요
이 유전자는 전사 인자(transcription factor)로서 홈도메인 함유 초과분류군에 속하는 단백질을 암호화한다. 이 단백질은 단독 이량체(homodimer) 또는 관련 단백질인 간세포 핵 인자 1-알파(hepatocyte nuclear factor 1-alpha)와의 이종 이량체(heterodimer)로서 DNA에 결합한다. 이 유전자는 신장 형성(nephron development)에 작용하며, 배아 췌장(embryonic pancreas) 발달을 조절하는 것으로 나타났다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 신장 낭종 및 당뇨병 증후군(renal cysts and diabetes syndrome)과 비인슐린 의존성 당뇨병(noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus)을 초래하며, 특정 유형의 암(cancer)에서 이 유전자의 발현이 변화된다. 다양한 형태로 나타난다. 이 유전자에 대해 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 여러 전사체 변이체(transcript variant)가 발견되었다.
