유전자 개요
HAS3 유전자는 가지 없는 글리코사미노글리칸(glycosaminoglycan)인 히알루로난(hyaluronan) 또는 히알루론산(hyaluronic acid)의 합성에 관여하는 단백질을 지정한다. 이 히알루론산은 세포외 기질(extracellular matrix)의 주요 구성 성분이다. HAS3 유전자는 NODC/HAS 유전자 계열에 속하며, 해당 계열의 다른 유전자들이 지정하는 단백질들과 비교했을 때, 히알루로난 합성의 조절자로서 더 큰 역할을 하는 것으로 보인다. 대체 스플라이싱(alternative splicing)을 통해 여러 전사체 변이체(transcript variants)이 생성된다.
