유전자 개요
이 유전자는 알파 클래스에 속하는 글루타티온 S-전달 효소(glutathione S-transferase)를 암호화한다. 세포질 및 막 결합형 글루타티온 S-전달 효소는 두 개의 서로 다른 초유전자(supergene) 계열에 의해 지정된다. 이 효소들은 독성, 발암성, 약리학적으로 활성인 친전자성 화합물에 대한 세포 방어에 관여한다. 알파 클래스 유전자들은 염색체 6에 군집되어 있으며, 높은 관련성을 지니고 지질 과산화 생성물의 해독 작용을 하는 글루타티온 과산화 효소(glutathione peroxidase) 활성을 가진 효소를 암호화한다.
