G 단백질 연결 수용체 키나아제(G protein-coupled receptor kinase, GRK) 단백질 계열의 구성원을 이 유전자가 암호화한다. 이렇게 암호화된 단백질은 베타-아드레날린 수용체(beta-adrenergic receptor)뿐만 아니라, 비GPCR 세포 표면 수용체(non-GPCR cell surface receptors)와 세포골격, 미토콘드리아, 전사인자(transcription factor) 단백질을 포함한 광범위한 다른 기질을 인산화한다. 설치류 모델 데이터는 이 유전자가 배아 발달, 심장 기능 및 대사에서 역할을 수행함을 지지한다. 심부전 및 알츠하이머병 환자에게서 이 유전자의 발현 증가가 관찰되었다.
