이 유전자는 수용체 티로신 키나아제(receptor tyrosine kinases) 및 신호 전달 분자와 상호작용하는 것으로 알려진 소수의 어댑터 단백질(adapter proteins) 계열에 속하는 산물을 생성한다. 해당 유전자는 표피 성장 인자 수용체(epidermal growth factor receptor, EGFR) 및 에프린 수용체(ephrin receptors)와 상호작용하는 성장인자 수용체 결합 단백질(growth factor receptor-binding protein)을 암호화한다. 이 단백질은 초점 접착 키나아제(focal adhesion kinase, FAK)와 결합하여 인테그린 신호 전달 경로(integrin signaling pathway) 및 세포 이동에 관여한다. 두 개의 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 여러 전사체 변이체(transcript variants)가 이 유전자에서 발견되었다.
