GPR3은 G protein-coupled receptor(G protein-coupled receptor) 가족에 속하며 세포 막(membrane)에 위치한 수용체(receptor)이다. 7차 막횡단 영역(seven transmembrane domain) 모티프를 특징으로 하는 이 수용체들은 세포 외 신호를 G protein 매개 세포내 효과로 전환하는 데 관여한다. 암호화된 단백질은 아데닐레이트 사이클라아제(adenylate cyclase)를 활성화하고 쥐 모델에서 아밀로이드-베타(amyloid-beta) 생성을 조절하므로, 알츠하이머병(Alzheimer’s disease)에 역할을 할 수 있음을 시사한다.
