GPC1은 세포 표면 헤파란 황산 프로테오글리칸(heparan sulfate proteoglycan)에 속하며, 이 분자군은 다양한 수의 헤파란 황산 사슬이 결합된 막 결합 단백질 코어로 구성된다. 글리피칸 관련 내재성 막 프로테오글리칸 계열(GRIPS)의 구성원은 글리코실 포스파티딜이노시톨(glycosyl phosphatidylinositol) 연결을 통해 코어 단백질이 세포질막에 고정된 구조를 가진다. 이러한 단백질은 세포 분열과 성장 조절에 관여할 수 있다.
