GP6는 면역글로불린 슈퍼패밀리(immunoglobulin superfamily)에 속하는 혈소판 막 당단백질(platelet membrane glycoprotein)을 암호화한다. 암호화된 단백질은 콜라겐(collagen) 수용체로서 콜라겐 유도 혈소판 응집과 혈전 형성에 결정적 역할을 하며, 콜라겐 결합 시 Fc 수용체 감마 사슬(Fc receptor gamma-chain)과 복합체를 형성해 혈소판 활성화 신호 전달 연쇄를 개시한다. GP6의 돌연변이는 혈소판형 출혈 질환 11형(platelet-type bleeding disorder-11, BDPLT11)의 원인이며, 여러 동형 단백질(isoform)을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 전사체 변이가 보고되었다.
