골지체(Golgi apparatus)는 소포체(endoplasmic reticulum)에서 나가는 단백질의 분류 및 변형에 핵심적인 역할을 한다. 이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 제2형 골지 막 단백질이다. 이 단백질은 조면소포체에서 합성된 단백질을 가공하고 골지체를 통한 단백질 운반을 돕는다. 이 유전자의 발현은 바이러스 감염에 반응하여 상향 조절되는 것으로 관찰되었다. 이 유전자에 대해 동일한 단백질을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 전사체 변이체가 기술되었다.
