유전자 개요
GMNN 유전자는 세포 주기 조절에서 중요한 역할을 하는 단백질을 암호화한다. 이 단백질은 DNA 복제 인자 Cdt1에 결합하여 DNA 복제를 억제함으로써, 미니염색체 유지 단백질(minichromosome maintenance proteins)이 사전 복제 복합체(pre-replication complex)에 통합되는 것을 방지한다. 이 단백질은 세포 주기의 S기 및 G2기에 발현되며, 중기-후기 전이(metaphase-anaphase transition) 동안 후기 촉진 복합체(anaphase-promoting complex)에 의해 분해된다. 이 유전자의 발현 증가는 대장암, 직장암, 유방암을 포함한 여러 악성 종양에서 역할을 할 수 있다. 이 유전자에 대해 대체 스플라이싱 전사체 변이체가 관찰되었으며, 두 개의 유사 위유전자(pseudogenes)가 16번 염색체 단완에 위치한다.
