유전자 개요
GLRX 유전자는 글루타레독신 과의 구성원을 암호화한다. 이 유전자가 지정한 단백질은 글루타티온-단백질 혼합 이황화물의 가역적 환원을 촉매하는 세포질 효소(cytoplasmic enzyme)이다. 이 효소는 항산화 방어 시스템에 크게 기여한다. 또한 신호 전달 매개체의 S-글루타티오닐화 상태를 조절함으로써 여러 신호 전달 경로에 중요하다. 이 효소는 베타-아밀로이드 독성 및 알츠하이머병과 관련이 있다. 동일한 단백질을 암호화하는 여러 대체 스플라이싱 전사체 변이체들이 확인되었다.
