유전자 개요
이 유전자는 간극 연접 단백질(gap junction protein) 계열의 구성원을 암호화한다. 간극 연접 단백질은 세포 간 이온 및 소분자의 이동을 촉진하는 간극 연접 채널을 형성하기 위해 조립되는 막 통과 단백질이다. 뉴클레오타이드와 아미노산 수준에서의 서열 유사성에 따라, 간극 연접 단백질은 알파와 베타 두 범주로 나뉜다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 유전성 말초 신경병증인 X-연관 샤르코-마리-투스 질환을 유발한다. 동일한 단백질을 암호화하는 대안적 스플라이싱 전사체 변이체들이 이 유전자에서 발견되었다.
