유전자 개요

GFAP(GFAP)는 성숙한 별아교세포(astrocyte)의 주요 중간섬유(intermediate filament) 단백질 중 하나를 암호화하며, 발생 과정에서 별아교세포를 다른 신경아교세포(glial cell)와 구별하는 표지자로 쓰인다. GFAP의 돌연변이는 중추신경계 별아교세포에 생기는 희귀 질환인 알렉산더병(Alexander disease)을 일으킨다. 또한 대체 스플라이싱(alternative splicing)을 통해 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 여러 전사체 변이체(transcript variant)가 만들어진다.
