유전자 개요
GDF2 유전자는 TGF-베타 (transforming growth factor-beta) 단백질 슈퍼패밀리(superfamily)의 분비성 리간드(ligand)를 암호화한다. 이 초과군의 리간드는 다양한 TGF-베타 수용체에 결합하여 SMAD 단백질 초과군 전사 인자(transcription factor)의 모집 및 활성화를 유도하며, 이는 유전자 발현을 조절한다. 암호화된 전구-프로단백질(preproprotein)은 단백질 분해 가공을 거쳐 이황화 결합된 동종이량체(homodimer)의 각 소단위(subunit)를 생성한다. 이 단백질은 연골 및 뼈 발달, 혈관신생, 그리고 신경세포의 분화를 조절한다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 유전성 출혈성 모세혈관확장증과 관련이 있다.
