유전자 개요
GDF10 유전자는 TGF-베타(transforming growth factor-beta) 단백질 초과계열의 분비형 리간드(ligand)를 암호화한다. 이 계열의 리간드는 다양한 TGF-베타 수용체에 결합하여 SMAD 계열 전사(transcription) 인자를 모집하고 활성화시켜 유전자 발현을 조절한다. 암호화된 전구단백질은 절단 과정을 거쳐 이황화 결합된 동종이량체(homodimer)의 각 소단위를 생성한다. 이는 뇌졸중 후 신경 복구를 촉진한다. 또한, 이 단백질은 종양 억제제(tumor suppressor)로 작용할 수 있으며, 이 유전자의 발현 감소는 구강암(oral cancer)과 연관된다.
