이 유전자는 TRAFAC 클래스 다이나민 유사 GTPase(dynamin-like GTPase) 슈퍼패밀리(superfamily)에 속한다. 인코딩된 단백질은 NLRP3 인플라마솜(inflammasome) 조립의 활성화인자(activator)로 작용하며, 선천면역(innate immunity) 및 염증 반응에 관여한다. 선택적 접합(alternative splicing)에 의해 다수의 전사체 변이체(transcript variant)가 생성된다.
