유전자 개요
이 유전자는 구아니도아세테이트를 크레아틴으로 전환하는 메틸전이효소(methyltransferase) 단백질을 암호화한다. 이 과정에서 S-아데노실메티오닌(S-adenosylmethionine)이 메틸 공여체로 사용된다. 본 유전자의 결함은 뇌 내 크레아틴 결핍 및 구아니디노아세테이트 축적으로 인해 신경계 증후군과 근육 저긴장증(muscular hypotonia)에 관여하는 것으로 보인다. 이 유전자는 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 두 가지 전사체 변이체(transcript variant)가 있으며, 위유전자(pseudogene)는 염색체 2번과 13번에서 발견된다.
