유전자 개요
갈락토스-1-인산 우리딜 전달 효소(GALT)는 갈락토스 대사의 르루아 경로 두 번째 단계를 촉매한다. 이 단계는 UDP-글루코스 및 갈락토스-1-인산에서 글루코스-1-인산 및 UDP-갈락토스로의 전환이다. 이 효소의 결핍은 인간에게 고전적 갈락토스혈증을 일으키며, 만약 식단에서 유당을 제거하지 않으면 신생아기에 치명적일 수 있다. 갈락토스혈증의 병태생리학은 명확히 규명되지 않았다. 이 유전자에 대해 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 두 가지 전사 변이체(transcript variant)가 발견되었다.
