감마-아미노뷰티르산 (GABA) A 수용체는 중추신경계에서 가장 빠른 억제성 시냅스 전달을 매개하는 다중소단위 염소 채널이다. 이 유전자는 GABA A 수용체의 베타 2 소단위(subunit)를 암호화한다. 이 유전자는 GABA A 수용체의 알파 1 및 감마 2 소단위에 대한 유전자를 포함하는 클러스터 내의 염색체 5q34에 위치한다. 이 유전자의 대체 스플라이싱(alternative splicing)은 114 bp 삽입(insertion)에서 차이가 나는 두 개의 전사체 변이체(transcript variants)를 생성한다.
