이 유전자는 면역 조절 및 단백질 접힘과 수송과 관련된 기본적인 세포 과정에 관여하는 이머노필린(immunophilin) 단백질 계열의 구성원인 단백질을 암호화합니다. 이 단백질은 면역 억제제인 FK506과 라파마이신에 결합하는 시스-트랜스 프롤릴 이성질체효소(cis-trans prolyl isomerase)입니다. 또한, 90 kDa 열 충격 단백질(heat shock protein) 및 P23 단백질과 함께 성숙한 헤테로-올리고머 프로게스테론 수용체(progesterone receptor) 복합체와 기능적으로 상호작용하는 것으로 생각됩니다. 이 유전자에서는 다수의 폴리아데닐화 부위(polyadenylation sites)가 발견되었으며, 대체 스플라이싱(alternative splicing)은 여러 전사체 변이체(transcript variants)를 생성합니다.
