FGL2가 암호화하는 단백질은 피브리노겐(fibrinogen)의 베타 및 감마 사슬과 유사한 분비 단백질이다. 카복실 말단(carboxyl-terminus)은 피브리노겐 관련 도메인(fibrinogen-related domain, FRED)으로 이루어져 있으며, 사슬 간 이황화 결합(interchain disulfide bond)으로 안정화된 사량체(tetramer) 복합체를 형성한다. 이 단백질은 점막 부위에서의 생리적 기능에 관여하는 것으로 추정된다.
