유전자 개요

FGF7이 암호화하는 단백질은 섬유아세포 성장 인자(fibroblast growth factor, FGF) 계열의 구성원으로, 광범위한 유사분열 촉진 및 세포 생존 활성을 지니며 배아 발생, 세포 성장, 형태 형성, 조직 복구, 종양 성장과 침윤 등 다양한 생물학적 과정에 관여한다. 이 단백질은 강력한 상피세포 특이적 성장 인자로서 유사분열 촉진 활성이 주로 각질형성세포(keratinocyte)에서 나타나고 섬유아세포와 내피세포에서는 나타나지 않는다. 마우스와 랫드 상동유전자 연구에서는 상피의 형태 형성, 상처의 재상피화, 모발 발달, 초기 폐 기관 형성에서의 역할이 제시되었다.
