이 유전자가 지정하는 단백질은 면역글로불린 감마 복합체의 Fc 부위에 대한 낮은 친화도의 수용체입니다. 이 단백질은 면역 복합체의 식작용과 B세포에 의한 항체 생산 조절에 관여합니다. 이 유전자의 변이는 전신 홍반성 루푸스(systemic lupus erythematosus, SLE)에 대한 감수성을 증가시킬 수 있습니다. 이 유전자에 대해 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 여러 전사 변이체가 발견되었습니다.
