이 유전자는 Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) 모티프와 칼슘 결합 EGF 유사 도메인을 포함하는 분비성 세포외 기질 단백질을 암호화합니다. 이 단백질은 인테그린(integrins) 및 RGD 모티프와의 상호작용을 통해 내피 세포(endothelial cells)의 부착을 촉진합니다. 또한, 이 유전자에 결함이 생기면 상염색체 우성 피부이완증, 상염색체 열성 피부이완증 제1형(CL type I), 그리고 노화 관련 황반변성 제3형(ARMD3)의 원인이 됩니다.
