이 유전자에 의해 암호화되는 단백질은 세린 단백질분해효소(serine protease) 계열에 속하는 동종이량체(homodimeric) 막 단백질입니다. 이 단백질은 상피암의 반응성 기질 섬유아세포(fibroblast), 치유 상처의 육아 조직, 그리고 뼈 및 연조직 육종의 악성 세포에서 선택적으로 발현됩니다. 또한, 이 단백질은 발달, 조직 복구, 상피 발암 과정 동안 섬유아세포 성장 조절 또는 상피-간질 상호작용에 관여하는 것으로 여겨집니다.
