유전자 개요

이 유전자는 회장의 지방산 결합 단백질(ileal fatty acid binding protein)을 암호화한다. 지방산 결합 단백질(Fatty acid binding proteins)은 긴 사슬 지방산과 기타 소수성 리간드에 결합하는 작고 고도로 보존된 세포질 단백질 계열이다. FABP6와 FABP1(간 지방산 결합 단백질)은 담즙산에도 결합할 수 있다. 지방산 결합 단백질의 역할에는 지방산 흡수, 수송 및 대사가 포함되는 것으로 생각된다. 이 유전자에 대해 다른 전사 개시점(transcription promoters) 또는 다른 스플라이싱(splicing)으로 생성된 전사 변이체(transcript variants)가 발견되었다.
