이 유전자는 표피 세포에서 발견되는 지방산 결합 단백질(fatty acid binding protein, FABP)을 암호화하며, 건선 조직에서 처음 상향 조절되는 것으로 확인되었습니다. 지방산 결합 단백질은 긴 사슬 지방산 및 기타 소수성 리간드에 결합하는 작고 매우 보존된 세포질 단백질 계열입니다. FABP는 지방산 흡수, 수송 및 대사에 역할을 할 수 있습니다. 이 유전자의 다형성은 제2형 당뇨병과 관련이 있습니다.
