유전자 개요
EPCAM은 암종(carcinoma) 관련 항원(antigen)을 암호화하며, 최소 두 종의 I형 막단백질(type I membrane protein)을 포함하는 계열에 속한다. 대부분의 정상 상피세포와 위장관 암종에서 발현되고, 칼슘 비의존성 동종 세포접착분자(homotypic cell adhesion molecule)로 기능하며, 사람 암종의 면역요법(immunotherapy) 표적으로 활용되고 있다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 선천성 다발성 융모 장병증(congenital tufting enteropathy)을 일으킨다.
