유전자 개요
이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 스펙트린 및 액틴과 함께 적혈구 막(erythrocyte membrane) 골격 네트워크를 구성한다. 이 복합체는 적혈구의 형태와 변형 능력에 중요한 역할을 한다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 제1형 타원세포증(elliptocytosis, EL1)과 관련이 있다. 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 전사체 변이체(spliced transcript variant)가 이 유전자에 대해 기술되었다.
